A meeting of the consortium was held at Tel Aviv University, Tel Aviv, Israel. During the meeting, the mid-term report of the project was presented. 150 scientists from 12 countries particiapted in the scientific part of the meeting including 52 presnetations.For more details click here

DTI suffers from inherent limitations and its relation to tissue micro-structure is not straightforward. This deliverable aims to advance several frameworks to have better estimation of tissue micro-structure. First, we would like to generalize and extend the AxCaliber framework to 3D. AxCaliber allows estimation of the axon diameter distribution function and so far was limited to single orientation measurement. With the current extension, it is feasible to measure the ADD for any fibre orientation. In addition, we extended the double-Pulsed-Field-Gradient (d-PFG) to imaging. dPFG allows estimation of microscopic anisotropy in macroscopic isotropic voxels. Thus, the aim was to develop, implement and evaluate the ability of the d-PFG MRI to serve as new tools for conveying microstructural information focusing on scenarios where there is no ensemble anisotropy.more ...

This part of the project is meant to generate the data base for the evaluation and comparison of existing as well as newly developed algorithms for the estimation of fibre direction, connectivity and other microstructural properties, such as axonal diameter and density. For this purpose, data sets with a wide variety of acquisition parameters, in particular diffusion directions and b-values, from humans and several non-human species are needed. more ...
